West Lancs group is chaired by Rachel and meets periodically, our members include the NFU, Skelmersdale Community Food InitiativeWest Lancs CVS, local farmers and growers.

Our latest meeting was held in the wonderful location of a greenhouse of one of the group members H&P Ascroft  – we think perhaps April was a little optimistic and hope to do it again soon when the sun is shining and there is a little more warmth!

We have a vibrant range of passionate people who either work with food or volunteer their time to promote and help with the many sustainable food themes.

In July we have the West Lancs CVS ‘Schools Show What Your Grow’ event, a fabulous day when local SWYG School display3schools from around West Lancs come together at West Lancs college in Skelmersdale to celebrate their food growing areas, display what they have grown, their pictures and stories. This years event we are lucky to have a local farmer coming to help us judge as well as Anne Gunning (North West Coordinator for RHS Schools)

Debbie Hall EvansRecently we welcomed Debbie Halls-Evans (winner of the TV programme The Taste 2014) on a ‘girls&wellies’ trip around some of our local farms – you can read her write up here. We are looking to do a pop up restaurant in one of the farmers field later this summer – an opportunity to have a delicious meal of field fresh produce whilst having the chance to see it grown and meeting the farmer.

A meeting with Lancashire Children’s University went really well and we are hoping to give children the opportunity to meet local farmers, to understand where their food comes from, who grows it and develop an understanding and respect for their local farmers.
