What’s happening?

Fylde and Wyre Sustainable Food Meeting 31st March 2015

We discussed a variety of activities happening in the area such as the Healthy Catering Award, the Food for Life Partnership, the Sustainable Food Cities conference in March 2015, and diverting food waste from landfill sites.

Made in Lancashire

The Made in Lancashire (MiL) food & drink network is hosted by Myerscough College and has been supporting local food and drink producers, retailers and service businesses since 2001. Made in Lancashire promotes its members under the Made in Lancashire brand and encourages a ‘Think, Buy, Eat Local’ ethos amongst consumers. Memorial Gardens in Fleetwood

A demonstration garden and community growing site are being developed at the Memorial Gardens in Fleetwood.

Cottom Hall Community Garden

This fantastic community garden is proudly owned by Wyre Borough Council and is adjacent to Cottom Hall Allotments, Poulton-le-Fylde. During 2015, Groundwork are working alongside members of the community and volunteers from Comfort Zone to further develop the site and help to work towards the long term sustainability. You can find Groundwork on site every Tuesday and everyone is welcome to get involved at this and other times of the week.

Local pupils create tasty garden designs

Pupils from Ansdell Primary have teamed up with volunteers from Friends of Ansdell Station to transform the area around a local community centre. Flower beds outside the Ansdell Institute on Woodlands Road have been filled with edible flower and vegetables which can be picked, eaten and enjoyed by anyone in the community.

Our next meeting

The next meeting will take place on Tuesday 29th September (venue tbc) and we’re keen for more individuals and organisations to get involved. Please get in touch using the contact form below if you would like to join the Fylde and Wyre Group.
