Basic Cookery7Ormskirk Foodbank opened in June 2013, we are part of the Trussell Trust and distribute food to people in crisis via a referral voucher system. We work closely with our referral agencies and other local Foodbanks; we achieve more by working together.

Ormskirk Foodbank hold regular cookery classes in partnership with Skelmersdale Community Food Initiative, with the emphasis on fun and friendship, there is a lot of laughter involved and some cooking as well! Participants learn about budgeting and nutrition but we do it in a very relaxed environment.

As soon as people are at ease they are more inclined to listen and participate. The classes have been a great success and the sense of achievement is huge. One client text the foodbank and said she had made the meal for her three young daughters, she said ‘my girls are proud of me’. We all want to do something positive; it sometimes needs a little encouragement to take that first step.

Ormskirk Foodbank have just introduced an exciting fresh fruit and veg voucher scheme, in partnership with a local, independent fruit and veg shop, clients receive a voucher which can be used to choose a selection of fresh produce for themselves and their families.

As a foodbank we are always looking to do more, and support more through our work with local organisations, business and agencies; we can all achieve more by working together.
